On Monday, October 25, our dialogue opened with a keynote address by Timothy Schmalz, the artist who created Homeless Jesus and Angels Unaware, which was commissioned by Pope Francis. After a virtual coffee break, Fr. Michael Gallagher, SJ, illuminated the global reality of people on the move while Marisa Limon Garza highlighted the challenges in the U.S.
On Wednesday, Fr. vanThanh Nguyen, S.V.D. invited us into the Word of God, Rhonda Miska reviewed the Church’s long-standing concern for the migrant, and Lisa Parisio contrasted the language of the tradition to the language of policy debate.
On Friday, Sr. Joanna Okereke, HHCJ and Dr. Mark Gray will presented the CARA study on the Church’s care for the migrant and the immigrant. Sister Norma Pimentel shared the realities of the border and her work with people on the move in the Rio Grande Valley. The Chair of the USCCB’s Pastoral Care for Migrants, Refugees and Travelers, Bishop Joseph Tyson of the Diocese of Yakima, will give the closing address.
