Join Our Advocacy Effort for Vaccine Equity

Our executive director, Don McCrabb, recently encouraged USCMA members to advocate for vaccine equity around the world with a version of the following reflection:

What is the relationship between the single drop of water and the vastness of the ocean? Each action we take to encourage our leaders will amplify others until there is a tsunami calling for global vaccine equity. How will the media - all media - and Congress respond?

What is the relationship between the candle and the flame? Without the flame, the candle cannot realize its mission as a candle. Without the candle, the flame flares and dies. But together, they give light to all in the room. Each action for others lights a candle, says a prayer, that we will stand together for the health and well being of humanity. We can ignite the world with the brilliance of our support for global vaccine equity. 

In the Name of God, join your voice with others for global vaccine equity. 

The Catholic Cares Coalition promotes vaccine equity in the U.S. and around the world, drawing on Catholic social teaching, for people who are underserved or marginalized. This includes communities of color, rural areas, and others with limited vaccine availability in the U.S., as well as access for developing countries and among refugees and other displaced people who may not be citizens in their current home.

As reported in the inaugural podcast of Catholic Cares Coalition, the organization has created a robust communication strategy for underserved areas and created microgrants that funded vaccination efforts in areas around the country.

Another focus has been supporting efforts to improve vaccine equity in developing countries. In August, the coalition and its 60 Catholic member organizations urged Congress to generously fund purchasing, production, delivery, and outreach efforts for COVID-19 vaccines around the world. Efforts continue to ensure that funding is included in continuing resolutions.
