Final Meeting of Synod Synthesis Study Group

Our fifth and final meeting will be on Thursday, February 22, 2024 at 2pm ET. 

We will focus on Part III – Weaving Bonds, Building Communities. The best way to prepare for this session is to focus on the following sections:

 16. Towards a Listening and Accompanying Church – 16.o and 16.p. Do we believe that the Church listens to missionaries?

 17. Mission in the Digital Environment – be sure to read the whole section. Mission, and its variants, are used nine (9) times. Do we have any concerns about the expression “digital missionaries?”

18. Structures for Participation – be sure to read the whole section but focus on 18.a. Mission, and its variants, are used ten (10) times. Do we believe that the purpose of synodality, and co-responsibility, is mission?

Consequently, we will focus on those three questions:

 
1. Do we believe that the Church listens to missionaries?

2. Do we have any concerns about the expression “digital missionaries?”

3. Do we believe that the purpose of synodality, and co-responsibility, is mission?

 
Anyone can raise a question, voice a concern, or make a proposal. Please do not feel confined to these three questions. If the Holy Spirit moved you to focus on something else in Part III, please give voice to it.

Don McCrabb will share his developing thoughts about some type of response to the Synthesis Report. We must have an honest conversation about how we can craft such a response and who is going to do it.

Thanks for your involvement in this crucial moment in the life of the Church. Jesus, through the power of the Holy Spirit, continues to call the Church forward “in mission.” We hear the call. We want to respond. Together, we can discern a faithful response.
