The word “mission,” or some variation on it, is used 89 times in the Synod on Synodality synthesis report. Some observers believe the word mission is ambiguous and requires more clarity, precision, and theological grounding.
Mission, obviously, is essential to who we are and what we do.
We need to listen deeply to the "conversation in the Spirit" that took place in Rome in October 2023. We also need to listen deeply to the movement of the Spirit within our hearts and lives dedicated to mission and offer our response to the Synod.
Here is the flow of the meeting:
1. Gather – how are we doing?
2. Prayer - Adsumus, Sancte Spiritus
3. Goals of the Study
4. Organizing the Study
5. Conversation in the Spirit
6. Concluding Prayer
The synthesis report is available on the Synod website in multiple languages and in three formats – a booklet pdf, desktop pdf, and MS Word. You are encouraged to download the document in MS Word and save your own “study version” for your notes, questions, insights and concerns.
The Synod on Synodality is a significant moment in the life of the Church. The network of missionary communities needs to step up and be a part of the conversation and discernment.
Join us whenever you are able for a spirit-filled conversation. We will meet every Thursday from January 25-February. Visit our Synod Synthesis Study Series page for updates and resources.
