The Evangelizing Mission of the Church
February 18, 2021, 2pm ET
We want to introduce the Directory of Catechesis (July 2020) to the missionary community and explore the implications for mission.
Marilyn Santos and Sr. Theresa will guide us into this “new” Directory, highlighting how it supports and advances mission. Understanding the Directory, and the language it uses to talk about mission, will help missionaries appreciate how Directors of Religious Education, principals, and catechists are approaching mission.
Marilyn is the Associate Director of the Secretariat of Evangelization and Catechesis at the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops. She previously served as the Director of Mission Education in the National Office of the Pontifical Mission Societies in the United States. She held leadership positions in youth, young adult and cultural diversity ministries in the Archdiocese of Atlanta, the Diocese of Brooklyn, and the Diocese of Metuchen. Marilyn was President of La RED - the National Catholic Network de Pastoral Juvenil Hispana and consultant for the USCCB Secretariat on Laity, Marriage, Family & Youth. She served as a VIDES-Salesian Sisters Missionary in Ecuador.
Sr. Theresa Lee, FMA, is a Daughter of Mary Help of Christians (more familiarly known as the Salesian Sisters of St. John Bosco). The congregation was founded in 1872 by St. John Bosco and St. Mary Mazzarello as a response to the needs of the young, especially the poorest. Currently, there are over 11,500 Sisters who mission in 98 countries. The Salesian priests, Brothers, lay Cooperators, and other Salesian Family members are on every continent in service to the young and the poor. Sr. Theresa is the Director of VIDES-East USA (Volunteers International in Development, Education, and Solidarity) and Vocation Director for her province. She has served in various capacities in education and formation as a Salesian Sister in these 20 years of religious life.
