The situation is dire.
The summer mission appeals provide essential funds for missionary communities – to keep Gabe in South Sundan, etc. etc. (the four key mission stories we have identified so far).
Covid-19 cancelled those mission appeals.
Mission is hard enough as it is. Now missionaries are dealing with Covid-19. And, they cannot ask for support from the Catholic faithful who are always so generous every year.
Mission Alive! is our attempt to raise awareness about mission and raise funds for missionaries.
All of us are suffering because of Covid-19. But we are not worrying about our next meal. Literally. We are not asking ourselves if we will be able to eat lunch, or dinner. The poor are worrying about their next meal – or even if they will eat today. And our missionaries are there working with governments and humanitarian agencies to get food to the hungry. They have to go the extra mile to get food to those who are sheltered in place, or the elderly, or the sick.
They are working 18 hour days and fear for the future. When can they ask us for our help – both our prayers and our financial support? No summer mission appeal, no mission. No mission means more isolation, no hope, and more death.
We can help. Give now. Pray.
